NourishWorks: Building a Healthier, More Resilient Community Together
As the world marks 80 years since the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, we’re proud to launch NourishWorks – a new division of the Elston Opportunity Hub – dedicated to advancing food security, nutrition, and workforce development in Michigan City.
Why Does this Approach Matter?
Diet quality is the number one cause of death in the US.
Over $130 billion in excess healthcare costs are caused by food insecurity.
Hunger deepens inequities across communities.
Food insecurity raises the risk of chronic disease.
Food security supports health, well-being, workforce success, and economic growth.
Every action counts in creating a world where nobody goes hungry.
When we strengthen local food systems, we strengthen our community.
Next Steps
In the coming months, NourishWorks will welcome its first food and nutrition partners into the Michigan City Elston Opportunity Hub. Each has been carefully chosen to support our workforce and employment programs, creating a truly integrated environment where food and opportunity meet.
Unlike traditional workforce systems, our model centers around Food as Medicine and the E-A-C approach: Education, Accessibility, and Choice – all under one roof.
These services will benefit everyone who steps into the Hub – guests, employees, and volunteers alike.
Stay tuned for upcoming “Meet & Greets,” where partners can connect and explore how we can collaborate to make food a catalyst for health and empowerment.
